Picture Day

It was picture day yesterday. That usually means that we wont have a very good practice. We did manage to get some more top work in. We worked on bar arms and tilts. We also had some motion matches. The picture turned out well I guess. It was a pretty uneventful day. I hope that we have more intensity in practice today. We will do some shark bait matches today. I am looking forward to that. I hope this can help us with our mental and physical toughness. The Middle School Christmas party is at my house tomorrow so I have to sprint home after practice and get ready for it tonight so they don't think that my family lives like livestock. I am also looking forward to the youth tournament at Diamond on Saturday. I finally get to see my boys compete.

Practice 12/15

We had a good practice it went a little long , but we got better. We continued to work tilts and turks from the top position. We especially focused on spiral rides and capturing wrists and tilts when your opponent bases up. We got some good live wrestling in and we played SLAP BACK. The guys didnt play the game the way it should be played. They actually worked together on who was gonna get slapped. I ended up on the wrong end of that a couple of times. I think Joey Albrecht received the worst slap of the day. He recovered. On that note I was pleased with Joey's wrestling today. We wrestled a live takedown session where the first one to 10 takedowns wins the battle. Joey won his match. I rewarded him with a purple visor. Ethan Davis received a t-shirt for his efforts. Ethan and Matt Schiffner had a 15 min war. It was fun to witness. I hope our focus is there today like it has been this week.

Practice 12/14

Coming in I know that there are a few areas of concern. I know that we need to get tougher, have superior conditioning, and we need mat time. Most of the surrounding teams in our area are getting a lot of mat time out of season. I only have a few individuals who spend extra time on wrestling in the off season. We need to do some catching up in a short time. This week we are focusing on top work. We need to do a better job of controlling wrists and the hips on top. We focused on specific breakdowns that will lead to wrist control. We worked on spiral ride and sag breakdowns that will lead to tilts. We did a good job of focusing in practice. It was all business. I feel if we continue to work this hard we will make some progress this week. I look forward to today's practice.

Missouri High School Wrestling

Monett Missouri
High School Wrestling
The season has gotten off to a rough start. We forfeited 6 weight classes to the Branson Pirates and ended up losing 56-20. Monett won 7 of 12 contests. We just don't have the big guys out. This past weekend the cubs traveled to Carl Junction and participated in the Carl Junction Classic. Monett finished with 116 points 6th out of 10 teams. Seneca won the championship with 268.5 team points. Ethan Davis won his 16th high school tournament of his career defeating Carl Junctions Trent Landis 5-0 in the Final round. Chris Renteria won his first High School championship defeating Andy Wasson of Seneca by fall revenging a loss to Wasson last year. Matt Schiffner finished 2nd losing to Dalton Cummings of Seneca. Juan Renteria finished 4th losing to Mario Corado of Pittsburg Kansas 17-10. We have a lot of work to do. I feel that our strength is on our feet. Our weakness is defiantly on the mat. We just haven't had the opportunity to get a lot of mat time . This week and next week that will be out focus to help us get ready for the upcoming Springfield Holiday Tournament at the end of December.
